Would You Trust a Sunscreen You Drink?

SPF Water Osmosis Pür Medical Skincare claims to have developed the world’s first drinkable sunscreen, Osmosis Harmonized Water UV Neutralizer. You simply drink 2 ml at least an hour before heading out in the sun and then every four hours after that if you’re still outdoors. According to the press release, the product contains, a “form of radio-frequencies called scalar waves. When ingested, they vibrate above the skin to neutralize UVA and UVB, creating protection comparable to an SPF 30.” Sounds intriguing.

The brand recently sponsored a study where they had 24 participants of different races head out into the San Diego sunshine for an hour after drinking the U.V. Neutralizer. They were each evaluated 24 hours later for evidence of a sunburn. Sixteen out of 24 didn’t burn–in percentages that’s 66 percent, which is not a number that’s going to convince me to ditch my trusty SPF lotion.

The other problem, besides the not stellar results, is that the study offered no control group either with the same people or different ones using sunscreen.

So-I would say use the Osmosis Harmonized Water UV Neutralizer if you want a backup sunscreen or truly hate sunscreen in general. Otherwise, stick with your favorite SPF lotion.
