Chatting with Tamera Mowry-Housley

The other day I had the chance to catch up with Tamera Mowry-Housley of the Tia and Tamara Show. She was at a luncheon celebrating the launch of the new Clearblue Advanced Pregnancy Test with Weeks Estimator. The new pregnancy test tells you about how pregnant you are from not at all on up to 3+ weeks from the time you ovulated.

Tamera was there with her adorable 11-month son Aden. I asked her about her relationship with identical twin Tia, her parenting style, losing the baby weight and packing tips.

How is your relationship with your sister Tia?

We have our moments as siblings do. If I weren’t honest, I would say everything is great, always hunky dory all the time. It’s not. Were normal siblings. We’re identical twins and we grew up as a unit. We were like the same person for so long. Then all of the sudden we flourished into these amazing different women and we gotta deal with the differences. That’s when we clash. Tia’s more assertive. I’m more go with the flow, I don’t want to say sweet, but I am. But as business partners we work. I can sweeten her up she can toughen me up. Instead of judging, we learn from each other.

If you do fight, don’t be afraid to apologize when you’re wrong. It’s your responsibility if you want to communicate something to do it in a way that the other person will understand. Ask: Was it your intention to make me feel like crap right now? Most of the time it wasn’t and it makes the other person step outside of her feelings.

How would you describe your parenting style?

I’m with my son a lot. I chose to be that way. But I’m not into attachment parenting, like Tia. I’m newly married. I want my bed. I want that intimacy right now. But my sister works all the time. The time she can spend with her son is at night, so that’s what she does.

Any advice about losing the baby weight?

Be kind to yourself and don’t compare. Kate Middleton looked like she didn’t have a baby! What the hell? She was blessed with those genes. We’re blessed with other things. Don’t compare yourself. Be kind to yourself. Give yourself a year. I could lose the weight faster, but I’ more focused on spending time with my baby than being in the gym.

You travel a lot. Any tips for packing light?

I limit my shoes and I limit my jeans. A lot of the time you may wear this color jean for this outfit or a suede jean for this. Just bring your favorite jean that you can dress up, dress down and that looks great with everything.

Back to that pregnancy test. If you’re one of the many women who is unsure about the date of her last period, the new Clearblue Advanced Pregnancy Test with Weeks Estimator can help you figure out your due date before you even visit your doctor.
