Olay’s latest, Fresh Effects, is a collection of easy and affordable cleansers and moisturizers. We’re particularly impressed with the Shine Minimizing and Exfoliating cleansers. Both have light, barely-there scents. The Shine Minimizing cleanser is a clay based wash, similar to a clay mask; but faster and less messy. The Exfoliating cleanser has small, gentle beads that worked well at sloughing off the results of winter’s dry air. These two work well together if you alternated them.
The moisturizers are worth a close look as well. First, the BB Cream does multiple duties by improving dullness and smoothing out texture and incorporating SPF 15. It’s so thick that a small dime-sized amount goes a long way. It comes in two shades and the light to medium worked best for us. Note that this BB cream doesn’t have anti-aging ingredients found in others geared for a mature woman (you know who you are). The Satin Finish Lotion is ideal for someone who needs a light moisturizer. We loved the gel-like feel. It will be perfect in the summer when you want a clean, dewy look; but don’t want to look greasy.
The only weak link in the collection is the Powered Contoured Cleansing System. The oddly shaped, triangular plastic brush didn’t feel natural enough to use on the face and it was so small it was awkward to handle.
Fresh Effects is available at department stores nationwide. Priced from $5.99 to $12.99.
