For our annual girls’ getaway weekend with our high school girlfriends, we’re headed down to the brand spanking new Salamander Resort in Middleburg, Virginia on Saturday. Middleburg is about 30 minutes away from Dulles Airport and is the heart of Virgina horse country. The 168-room resort, owned by media mogul Sheila Johnson, opened in August.
The charming town is known for its food, boutiques, wineries and, of course, horses and the Salamander is a welcome addition. It has its own farm to table restaurant, Harrimans, along with the Gold Cup Bar and studio for cooking classes. The resort offers horseback riding and lessons, bicycle and hiking trails, afternoon tea, and a spa that we hear is not to be missed (unfortunately, because of time restraints, we won’t have time to experience it).
We are opting to hit some of the area’s vineyards for some wine tasting. There are 50 within a 60 minute drive, so we’ll be kept busy!
The rooms start at 545 square feet and half of the rooms and all of the suites have gas fireplaces, which sound cozy for the chilly weather we’re predicted to have this weekend.
Check back next week for a full report!
