Inns generally fall into one of two categories: Luxe or creepy. So it’s refreshing to find the Maidstone Inn in East Hampton, which is decidedly chic. The Inn was built in the 1800s and thankfully, was most recently redone in 2008 by its new Swedish owners. Each of the 19 rooms in the Inn are individually decorated and named after famous Swedes.
When I stayed there last fall, I was in the Birgitt Nilson Suite (Nilson was a famous opera singer). Each of the rooms features free WiFi, Sony Playstations, Malin + Goetz products and the most comfortable beds, pillows and duvets in the world from Hästens.Dogs are allowed in some of the rooms.
Guests can also take advantage of the free bicycles to get around town and down to the beach. There are also complimentary morning yoga classes on the weekends and daily in July and August.
The Living Room restaurant is now for it’s local and organic cuisine. Don’t miss the pancakes with cloudberry jam for breakfast!
