When is a makeup bag more than a makeup bag? When it can easily double a chic cocktail bag and was designed by one of three up-and-coming Parisian designers for Lancôme. The Nouvelle Vague bags by Lancôme were designed by Yiqing Yin, Alexandre Vauthier, and Jacquemus as “makeup bags with the soul of an evening clutch.” Each bag is large enough to fit a L’Absolu Rouge Lipcolor, Hypnôse Star Mascara and the Hypnôse Eye Palette. (Hopefully your phone and a credit card can squeeze in there, too.)
Jacquemus imagined, “a carry-pouch to be worn like a belt if wrapped around the wrist—a practical, ergonomic accessory.” His pink wristlet opens with a Lancôme Rose embossed silver tab and opens to a vibrant blue lining. The bag is $500.
“I started from the premise that my evening clutch was to become my makeup bag and not the other way around,” says Yin. The resulting sculptural bag mixes rough textured fabric with a gold chain. Engraved on the raw, pure metalwork is the signature Lancôme Rose. The bag is $1500.
“I like to create balance, the perfect proportions,” explains Vauthier. “I love cold elegance, fire under ice.” The slimly-designed, black envelope features a golden clasp emblazoned with the Lancôme Rose. The bag is $1500.
The Nouvelle Vauge by Lancome collection goes on sale on July 28 at Net-a-porter.com.
