When I was pregnant with my first, I really, really wanted to have a boy. Because being the mom of a girl seemed so challenging. Girls don’t have it easy, especially when they hit puberty and the idea of guiding someone through that is daunting. So I figured if I had boy first, I could at least work through some of the basic parenting issues and get some practice in.
Lucky for me I had a son–and then 20 months later, my daughter, Nola. I hope I can raise her to be brave and confident and smart–and in the words of the Always #LikeaGirl video below, Unstoppable.
